The time delay to the live signal, the so-called latency, is at about 10 seconds only for Zattoo streams. This currently applies to all Zattoo platforms excluding Samsung, LG and Panasonic Smart TVs and the Windows 10 app. The prerequisites for this are a stable network connection and the installation of the latest software updates.
On devices running iOS and tvOS operating systems, the delay in streaming is just 15 seconds. On all other platforms, the delay is currently at around 20 seconds.
What causes the time delay?
The live TV signal received through satellite or cable has to be compressed and converted for television over the internet. Additionally, the TV picture is buffered for a few seconds in order to enable a smooth stream in case the stream gets interrupted due to a network issue.
Does the reduced time delay apply to all Zattoo users?
Live broadcasts transmitted via Zattoo are delayed by around 10 to 20 seconds, depending on the platform or device on which Zattoo is currently being used. This applies to our entire range of channels in SD, HD and Full HD and to all our subscription plans as well as our ad-financed free offer.
When will the time delay be reduced also for other Zattoo apps?
Over the last few months, we have been working intensively to reduce the time delay. We were able to reduce it from about 35 seconds to about 10 to 20 seconds depending on the platform. For the start of the European Championship in June, the reduced time delay of 10 seconds time will apply to even more platforms, e. g. laptops and PCs using Zattoo on the web.
