In this article, you will learn why advertising is shown on Zattoo and what differences apply when using Zattoo with or without a subscription.
Please note:
Advertising may either be part of the broadcast TV programme or be shown additionally on Zattoo. Different rules apply depending on the content, channel and subscription.
Table of contents
1. Advertising with Zattoo Free
Zattoo Free is Zattoo’s free, ad-supported service in Germany and Switzerland.
Advertising makes it possible to provide the service free of charge and to offer live TV on various devices.
With Zattoo Free, ads may be shown, for example, when starting or switching a stream.
This is because Zattoo not only incurs streaming costs, but also costs for content and rights, which are financed partly through advertising and partly through subscription revenue.
2. Advertising on FAST channels
FAST stands for Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV. These are free linear TV channels financed through advertising.
Advertising is therefore part of the FAST offering.
3. Advertising in the On Demand section
Zattoo’s on-demand offering is ad-supported. For this reason, ads are shown in on-demand content regardless of the subscription booked.
4. Targeted advertising content
On certain channels, targeted advertising content is shown instead of classic linear TV ad breaks.
This does not necessarily mean that more advertising is shown overall, but in some cases it may mean that personalised advertising is displayed.
5. Additional advertising on ProSiebenSat.1 content (Germany)
On ProSiebenSat.1 channels in Germany, additional advertising is shown when content is used time-shifted.
This affects the following functions:
Restart
Live Pause
Recordings
On-demand content
This advertising placement is required by ProSiebenSat.1 for TV platforms such as Zattoo.
6. Fast-forwarding and skipping ads (Switzerland)
In Switzerland, special rules apply to advertising on certain channels in time-shifted TV. These rules are based on GT12.
Different options apply depending on the subscription and channel:
With Premium, additional advertising is shown on participating channels.
With Ultimate, ad breaks in certain content can be skipped with one click.
