In this article, you’ll find practical tips on how to optimise playback quality on Zattoo. The following suggestions help reduce common causes of interruptions, delays or fluctuating picture quality.
Note:
Since Zattoo streams live TV in real time, different technical requirements apply compared to video-on-demand platforms.

Avoid network congestion
Any activity that uses additional bandwidth can affect streaming quality.
Close programs, browser tabs or apps that use the internet in the background.
Avoid running bandwidth-intensive applications at the same time.
Pause ongoing downloads or uploads, such as cloud synchronizations or updates.
Temporarily disconnect other devices from the Wi-Fi if possible.
Please note that during peak hours (for example in the evening or on weekends), internet speeds may fluctuate regionally. In this case, contact your internet service provider.
Optimise router and Wi-Fi
A well-configured home network is essential for stable streaming.
Restart the router to resolve temporary connection issues.
Place the router as centrally and elevated as possible.
Avoid locations near thick walls, metal surfaces or other sources of interference.
Ensure a direct line of sight between the router and the streaming device, or adjust the router antennas so the signal reaches all rooms effectively.
Use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band if your device supports it. It is generally more stable and faster than 2.4 GHz.
Switch to a less congested Wi-Fi channel to reduce interference from nearby networks.
Use repeaters, powerline adapters or a mesh system to extend coverage and avoid dead zones.
Assign clear Wi-Fi network names (for example, separate names for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) to ensure your device is connected to the correct network.
For maximum stability, a wired LAN connection via Ethernet is recommended.
Keep software and apps up to date
Up-to-date software helps prevent known issues and improves performance.
Make sure the router firmware is up to date.
Regularly update the Zattoo app to the latest version.
Keep the operating system of your device up to date.
When using Zattoo in a browser, use the latest browser version and regularly clear cache and cookies.
Adjust bitrate (mobile devices)
On iOS and Android devices, video quality can be adjusted manually.
Open the Settings in the Zattoo app.
Select Mobile/Wi-Fi → Quality.
Choose a lower quality.
A reduced bitrate can result in more stable playback when the connection fluctuates.
Check internet speed
Check your available internet speed using this speed test https://zpeed.tv/ directly on the device you use for Zattoo, ideally while a stream is running.
The following minimum speeds per stream are recommended:
0.5 Mbps – Technical minimum
3 Mbps – Recommended for SD
5 Mbps – Recommended for HD
8 Mbps – Recommended for Full HD
If the measured speed is significantly lower, please contact your internet service provider.
Note:
Make sure that no VPN, proxy or hosting connection is active. These services can significantly reduce speed or block access.
Additional optimisation options
In some cases, further device-level adjustments may help:
Test switching the DNS server to Google DNS (8.8.8.8).
Disable power-saving modes on smart TVs or mobile devices, as these can affect network performance.
Restart the router regularly to prevent long-term connection issues.
