This article helps if you see one of the following error messages:
“Reduced video quality – Device not compatible with the required copy protection encryption”
“Protected content – This stream cannot be played because your device is not compatible with the required DRM encryption”

1. Why does this message appear?
Some broadcasters (e.g. channels of the RTL Group) use enhanced DRM and HDCP protection requirements.
These are technical copy protection measures. Zattoo has no influence over these broadcaster security requirements.
If your device or device setup does not meet these requirements:
the stream may be blocked
the video quality may be reduced
2. Check external monitors or HDMI connections
DRM/HDCP issues are often caused by:
external monitors
HDMI adapters
USB-C hubs
docking stations
certain HDMI cables
Please test the following:
disconnect external monitors (if applicable)
remove adapters or hubs
try a different HDMI cable
try a different HDMI port
3. Windows (Web or Windows App)
Recommended setup:
Windows 10 or higher
Latest version of Microsoft Edge
Please check:
Install Windows updates
Disable browser extensions
Disable ad blockers
Close screen sharing or recording tools
Disconnect external monitors (if applicable).
Chrome, Firefox or other browsers may cause issues with certain channels.
4. macOS (Web)
Recommended setup:
macOS 10.14 or higher
Latest version of Safari
Please check:
Update macOS
Disable browser extensions
Close screen sharing or recording tools
Disconnect external monitors (if applicable).
Other browsers may have limitations with DRM-protected content.
5. Android and iOS (App)
Please check:
Use the official Zattoo app from Google Play or the Apple App Store
Do not use Zattoo in a mobile browser
Device must not be rooted
Do not use external displays via HDMI or USB
Disable VPN, proxy or Private Relay
Disable ad blockers
Uncertified or uncommon Android devices may not be compatible.
6. Linux and Kodi
Linux is not officially supported. Error-free playback cannot be guaranteed.
Using Zattoo via Kodi or similar software is also not supported and may result in DRM/HDCP error messages.
7. Important note
If your device does not meet the DRM/HDCP technical requirements, Zattoo cannot provide an alternative solution.
In this case, you will need to use an officially supported device.
