To use Zattoo reliably on your Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer, make sure both the Zattoo app and your Google TV system are up to date.
Please follow the steps below in the given order. Only move on to the next step if the issue persists.
Table of contents
1. Important note on device support
Zattoo supports Chromecast with Google TV (HD / 4K) as well as the Google TV Streamer.
Older Chromecast models without the Google TV interface (for example Chromecast 1st–3rd generation or Chromecast Ultra) are not covered in this article.
2. Restart the device (disconnect from power)
Disconnect the Chromecast / Google TV Streamer from power for at least 60 seconds.
Plug it back in and wait until Google TV has fully restarted.
3. Fully close and restart the Zattoo app
Open the app overview on Google TV.
Fully close the Zattoo app.
Open the app again.
Note: On Google TV, apps may continue running in the background. Fully closing the app can improve stability.
4. Reinstall the Zattoo app
Open Settings → Apps → See all apps.
Select Zattoo.
Choose Uninstall.
Restart the device.
Reinstall the Zattoo app via the Google Play Store.
5. Update Google TV system software
Open Settings → System → About → System update.
Install any available updates.
Restart the device afterwards.
6. Clear app cache and app data
Open Settings → Apps → Zattoo.
Select Clear cache.
Then select Clear data.
Restart the Zattoo app and sign in again.
7. Check storage space and your Google account
Low storage space or Google account issues can affect apps.
Go to Settings → Storage and check if enough free storage is available.
Remove unused apps if needed.
Make sure a Google account is signed in correctly.
If necessary, sign out of the Google account and sign back in.
8. Check your network connection
Restart your router.
Disconnect and reconnect the network connection on the device.
If possible, test a different network (for example a mobile hotspot).
Check whether other devices on the same network can stream without issues.
Please note:
Public or hotel Wi-Fi networks may restrict or block streaming.
For maximum stability, a wired Ethernet (LAN) connection via an adapter is recommended if available.
Further tips can be found in our Improve streaming quality article.
9. Disable VPN, proxy or DNS filters
Zattoo may be blocked if your connection uses services that mask or redirect your IP address.
Disable any active VPN or proxy connections.
Check whether a DNS filter is active on your network (for example ad blockers, Pi-hole or parental controls) and disable it temporarily.
Restart both your router and the device afterwards.
10. Check video and audio settings
Open Settings → Display & Sound.
Check the resolution and refresh rate.
Test an alternative fixed setting (for example 1080p).
Under Audio, make sure the correct output device is selected.
If enabled, disable Dolby audio settings temporarily and test again.
11. Reset Google TV to factory settings
If the steps above don’t resolve the issue, you can reset the device. It will need to be set up again afterwards.
Open Settings → System → Reset.
Select Factory reset and follow the instructions.
