To use Zattoo reliably on your NVIDIA SHIELD (Android TV), make sure the Zattoo app and the SHIELD system software are up to date.
Please follow the steps below in the given order. Only move on to the next step if the issue persists.
Table of contents
1. Important note on device support
Zattoo supports NVIDIA SHIELD devices running Android TV version 7 or newer.
Older Android versions are no longer supported.
2. Restart the device
Open Settings → Restart
orUnplug the device from power for at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
A restart often resolves temporary system or memory issues.
3. Clear app cache or app data
Open Settings → Apps → Zattoo TV.
Select Clear cache.
If the issue continues, also select Clear data.
Restart the app and sign in again.
4. Update or reinstall the Zattoo app
Update the app
Open the Google Play Store.
Search for Zattoo TV.
Select Update, if available.
Reinstall the app
Open Settings → Apps → Zattoo TV → Uninstall.
Restart the SHIELD.
Reinstall the app via the Play Store.
5. Update SHIELD system software
Software updates are provided directly by NVIDIA.
Open Settings → Device → About → System upgrade.
Install any available updates.
Restart the device afterwards.
6. Check available storage space
Low storage space can cause app crashes or startup issues.
Open Settings → Storage.
Remove unused apps or files.
Make sure sufficient free space is available.
7. Optimise your network connection
A stable internet connection is essential for live TV streaming.
We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet (LAN) connection instead of Wi-Fi whenever possible. A LAN connection is usually more stable and less prone to interference.
If you use Wi-Fi:
Restart your router.
Move the device closer to the router if possible.
Avoid public or heavily congested networks.
Test a different network (for example a mobile hotspot).
Further tips can be found in our Improve streaming quality article.
8. Disable VPN or proxy services
Zattoo may be blocked if your connection uses services that mask or redirect your IP address.
Disable any active VPN or proxy services.
Restart both your router and the SHIELD afterwards.
9. Check display and audio settings
Certain SHIELD settings may affect playback.
Video resolution and refresh rate
Automatic video frequency detection does not work optimally in all configurations. A manual setting may help.
Open Settings → Display & Sound → Resolution.
Test 1080p 50 Hz or 720p 50 Hz.
AI Upscaling (newer SHIELD models)
Temporarily disable AI Upscaling to rule out compatibility issues.
Audio settings
Open Display & Sound → Advanced audio settings.
If audio passthrough is enabled, disable it temporarily and test again.
10. Reset NVIDIA SHIELD to factory settings
If the previous steps don’t resolve the issue, you can reset the device.
Open Settings → Storage → Factory reset.
Confirm the reset.
Note: All stored data will be deleted and the device must be set up again.
